Because of who you are!

 

Philippians 4:1-3

 

·        You have no confidence in the flesh 3:3

·        You desire to know Him with all of your heart 3:10

·        You have decide to continue forward 3:13-14

·        stretching out to become all that He meant for you to be 3:13-14

·        You are following those that are an example 3:17

·        You have decided to separate yourself from those that mind earthly things 3:18

·        You are preparing yourself to live in his presence 3:20-21, II Peter 3:11-14

 

Notice the relationship Paul says that he has with these people

  • Brethren dearly beloved
  • Longed for
  • My joy and crown I Thessalonians 2:19-20

 

I.                     Stand fast in the Lord

a.      He is our only foundation I Corinthians 3:11-15

b.      Quit ye like men I Corinthians 16:13

c.      Don’t let other men move you from the true gospel Galatians 1:6-9, Ephesians 4:14

d.      There were false teachers 3:2

e.      There were false walkers 3:18

 

II.                   Have the same mind

a.      He had already given doctrinal teaching 2:1-5, 14, 21

b.      He now brings it down to the practical 4:2

                                                              i.      Possibly a man and wife but most likely two fine Christian ladies

                                                            ii.      Euodias—fine traveling or prosperous journey

                                                          iii.      Syntyche—pleasant acquaintance, good luck

c.      This division is carnality

                                                              i.      Envying and strife and division I Corinthians 3:3

                                                            ii.      Rivalry between preachers and church members who choose them 3:4-7

 

III.                  Serve together

a.      Women are laboring in the ministry

                                                              i.      Ladies working with Jesus, Lydia helping Paul

                                                            ii.      Not preachers but still working I Timothy 2:12, Romans 16:1, I Timothy 5:9

b.      True yokefellow refers to a man—maybe a husband of one of the women, certainly someone Paul trusted to try to make peace

c.      We are in the same ministry

                                                              i.      Yokefellow

                                                            ii.      Fellow laborers

d.      We need to help each other Philippians 1:27
