Beware

 

Philippians 3:2, 1-12

 

The word beware is found in 26 verses in the entire Bible and 3 times in this one verse, Beware of false prophets and leaven Matthew 7:15, 16:6, 11-12

 

3:2 refers to the judaizers who were false teachers because they encouraged the people to be circumcised after salvation as part of salvation

 

Dogs because they returned to their vomit II Peter 2:22

Evil workers because they were taking them to another gospel Galatians 1:6-9

Concision which refers to mutilation or an abuse of circumcision Galatians 5:12

 

Adding anything to salvation—must be careful not to add to or even sound as though we are adding requirements to grace Romans 11:6, 3:28, the idea that you can lose your salvation implies works

 

I.                     They could cause you to put your confidence in the flesh

a.      Right nationality and birth 5

b.      Very religious 6

c.      No confidence in the flesh though circumcised 3

d.      He rejoiced in none of this but in Christ Jesus and worshipped in Spirit 3

 

II.                   They could cause you to lose Christ Galatians 2:21

a.      Paul had to choose his works or Christ 7

b.      He viewed his good works as dung 8

c.      Paul’s desire was to know Christ 10

 

III.                  They could cause you to choose your own righteousness over Christ’s righteousness

a.      Many are ignorant of Christ’s righteousness Romans 10:3-4

b.      Personal righteousness comes by keeping the law Christ’s righteousness comes by faith
