I.                     Getting control of our words

II.                   God’s commands about our words

a.      We are not to lie Proverbs 25:18

                                                              i.      Satan is the father of lies John 8:44

                                                            ii.      God hates the lying tongue Proverbs 6:17

                                                          iii.      All liars have their part in the lake of fire Revelation 21:8

b.      We are not to gossip or be a talebearer Leviticus 19:16

                                                              i.      These words wound deeply Proverbs 18:8

                                                            ii.      Drive back the backbiting tongue Proverbs 25:23

                                                          iii.      Backbiting is unrighteousness Romans 1:30

                                                           iv.      God hates those that sow discord Proverbs 6:16, 19

                                                             v.      Words should be used to edify and bless Romans 14:19, Philippians 2:3

c.      We are not to use our words to hurt others Proverbs 12:18

d.      We should use sound speech filled with grace Colossians 4:6, Titus 2:8

e.      We should not curse Romans 3:13-14. Which comes first the misery or the cursing Psalms 109:17-18

f.        We are not to flatter Psalm 5:9

g.      We are not to speak proud things Psalm 12:3-4

h.      Don’t talk to much Ecclesiastes 5:2-3

i.        Don’t speak too quickly Proverbs 18:13, James 1:19

j.         Talk of Jesus Christ and what he has done for you Acts 1:8, Mark 8:38
