Judges 19-21, 19:1-4

 

I.                  Faithfulness would have avoided all the story from these 3 chapters 19:2

 

II.              You can’t run away from your problems

a.    Whatever we sow we reap Galatians 6:7-8

b.    Your sin will find you out Numbers 32:23

c.     There is no place where we are out of God’s sight or presence Psalm 139:1-12

d.    God is ever watching Proverbs 5:21, 15:3

 

III.           True love is not selfish love

a.    She sought money or love or acceptance outside of her marriage

b.    He in pride wants to bring her back and apparently act like nothing ever happened

c.     He is willing to sacrifice her for his own comfort—a good night’s sleep 9:22-25

 

IV.            True love protects your partner

a.    He chooses his own security over hers 19:24

b.    They did not take her but rather he gave her up 19:25

 

V.                True love is sensitive to the needs of your partner

a.    He sleeps while she suffers 19:25

b.    He opens the door to find her dead on the doorstep 19:27

c.     He coldly tells her to get up and get going though she is dead 19:28

 

VI.            Getting angry after it is too late will only cost more than you planned

a.    He chops her in 12 pieces and sends her body all over the country 19:29

b.    He in his guilt accuses them of committing lewdness and folly 20:6

c.     He causes a war that costs the life of over 100,000 people

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lessons from the Levite

Time management and self discipline

 

Judges 19-21, 19:1-4

 

I.                  The Levite fails to see the importance of time and planning that would have avoided the entire story

 

II.              He is more worried about his comfort, convenience, friends and fun than responsibility

 

III.           He shows attitudes of the sluggard 19:4

a.    A little sleep, slumber and folding of the hands Proverbs 6:6-11

b.    Doesn’t finish what he starts Proverbs 12:27

c.     Wants but not willing to work Proverbs 13:4

d.    Wasteful Proverbs 18:9

e.    Allows small excuses to keep him from work Proverbs 20:4, 21:25, 22:3

f.      Doesn’t take care of what he has Proverbs 24:30-34

g.    Un-teachable Proverbs 26:16
