Living a Life of Vanity

Psalm 78:21-40

I.                     Enjoying or taking advantage of the blessings of God Psalm 78:29

a.      Thinking that the blessings of God are for my good

b.      Thinking that I am the reason, that it is about me

c.      Not understanding that God really does have a purpose for my life

d.      Thinking that he saved me because I am important—more important than the others that had died over the 400 years as slaves

e.      Could it be that God does want to do something with my life?

II.                   Always about what they wanted 29-30

a.      Not being satisfied with what God is doing in my life, talents, money, opportunities and position

b.      Not being grateful for all that He is doing in my life

c.      Instead of focusing on what they did have they focused on what they didn’t have like the dog and the bone

d.      Living my life for my own good, comfort, and purposes instead of thinking that maybe God has something that He wants to do in my life

e.      Very few people realize that their life does not revolve around themselves

III.                  Refusing to leave their stubborn ways 32

a.      This way of living does not satisfy, nor give peace or purpose

b.      This self or selfish life does bring contention, fighting, division, divorce, even wars

c.      They believed that what they had is because of what they had done

d.      Lost wasted lives

e.      They suffered and died for no reason

IV.               There is always a price to pay for vanity 33

a.      What benefit and purpose is their to the life of vanity

b.      They only got spiritual when God punished them 34

c.      Thousands die without hearing the gospel because we live only for our own good

d.      Our children become ungrateful and never live the abundant life
