Madagascar

Madagascar is a country located off the southeast coast of Africa and is the fourth largest island in the world surrounded by the Indian Ocean. Madagascar is slightly less than twice the size of Arizona.
 
Madagascar’s official languages are Malagasy and French. Malagasy is the tribal language of Madagascar while French is spoken among the educated population. 
 
Antananarivo is the capital and largest city of Madagascar. It is also known as “Antananarivo-Mother Hill”. The city sits at 4,199 ft above sea level in the center of the island, the highest national capital by elevation among the island countries. It is the country’s largest populated city with 1,275,207 people. 
 
52% of the people of Madagascar adhere to indigenous beliefs (worship a supreme being called Andriamanitra),  41 percent is Christian. The four principal Christian groups are Roman Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans, and the FJKM. 7% are Muslim. 
 
Madagascar has a population of 27,955,684 people. The population is predominantly of mixed Austronesian and East African origin. The proportion of children below the age of 15 is 43.1%, 53.8% is between 15 and 65 years of age, while 3.1% is 65 years or older .
