Chile’s Presidential Race

On Sunday, November 21, Chileans will head to the polls to elect a new president. Currently, the front-runners are leftist former student activist Gabriel Boric and ultra-conservative José Antonio Kast, with pre-election polls showing Kast with a slight lead. If no candidate obtains at least 50% of the vote, a run-off will be held in December.

In recent years, Chile has faced destructive protests that have left dozens dead, many injured, and cost the economy about USD $3 billion. Chile is also in the midst of writing a new constitution in an effort to end two years of social unrest. In the meantime, Chile’s current president has been impeached by the lower house of congress, setting up a trial in the nation’s senate over allegations of favoring his family in the sale of mining property while in office.

Pray for Chile. In the midst of tumultuous times, please pray that God would bring about the best political outcome to allow the spread of the gospel throughout Chile to continue!
