Dodge Hunger/ Good Works

Last Friday night the Students of Vision, the student ministry of Vision Baptist Church, held there first Dodge Hunger event. Dodge Hunger is a ministry of our church that will promote awareness about poverty around the world. During the events we not only play dodgeball but we collect cans of food to distribute to organizations in our area. We believe 3 things are for everyone, “dodgeball, feeding the poor, and most importantly the Gospel”. Mark Tolson shared with them a very clear, simple, yet thorough presentation of the Gospel.

We believe that physical poverty is horrific and we need to get involved in helping those in need. However, we believe that the spiritual poverty people will have a much longer impact on a persons life and is so much more tragic. So we work to meet both needs. The picture above (the cross and the cans) I believe represents this ministry well.

I was amazed at how many adults were wanting to volunteer their time and get involved. I guess it only makes sense. If we have been created, have the point of salvation, for good works that believers would want to be involved in something like this!

Here is what I told our teenagers about “good works”. I would be doing much harm if I blurred the line between good works and salvation. Good works are not done to “buy” or “earn” our way into heaven. God saves us by His GRACE, not by our WORKS Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:4-7 Yet, as God’s People, we have been created in Christ Jesus todo good works! Ephesians 2:10, Titus 2:11-14 We do good works to bring glory to God! Matthew 5:16, 1 Peter 2:11-12 In doing good works it can prepare unbelievers to be more receptive to the God. It demonstrates that God has and is doing a work in our hearts. It is Christ-like, which should be the desire of our lives! Acts 10:38
