Former Head of Vatican Bank Convicted of Embezzlement

A high-ranking Vatican official, Angelo Caloia, has been convicted of embezzlement and money laundering. He is the former head of the Vatican bank.

The 81 year old was convicted along with two Italian bankers. Between them, they siphoned off 57 million Euros.

Vatican City is the smallest sovereign state in the world by area and population with 825 people. It is governed by the Holy See and the Pope.
