Latin America News: Anger in Chile

On October 25, 2020, Chileans will vote on whether or not to rewrite its Pinochet-era constitution. This bid for change comes after the 2019 protests that marred the Chilean landscape and economy. As quarantine restrictions ease slightly in Santiago, demonstrators have begun gathering anew ahead of the referendum. At one of these protests, a video emerged showing a 16-year-old boy falling from a bridge into the Mapocho river during clashes with the police. The teenager was quickly rescued and taken to the hospital, where he is in stable condition. The incident marks the latest in a series of accusations against Chile’s carabineros or police officers. There is fear of a new wave of protests, which had mostly come to a halt in March due to COVID-19.

All over this world, there are multitudes who are hurting and searching. Nearly twenty million of those souls live in Chile. They are pushing, protesting, rioting, rebelling. They are up in arms in a bid to make their temporal lives on earth better when Jesus has already offered them the free gift of salvation and eternity with Him.

Please pray for Chile. Pray for those in authority, for the protestors, for the millions who are lost. Reform is needed in Chile, but of utmost importance is their need for salvation. More than anything, Chileans need Jesus.
