Latin America News: The Brazilian Situation

By Nate Gaffney, OGTC Intern

“We don’t know if when we leave home, we will come back – I don’t have the will to live anymore,” says Joyce da Silva dos Santos. She was mourning the death of her son, Guilherme, whose life was cut too short by corrupt policemen. Many citizens in Brazil walk in fear with the rising uncertainty and racial conflicts that occur more and more every day. People like dos Santos lose hope and the will to live.

Titus 2:11-14 tells us, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that BLESSED HOPE, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”

We, as Bible-believing Christians, have that blessed hope of Jesus Christ to share with Mrs. dos Santos and the many Brazilians who have lost hope. The question is, who will go? In Isaiah 6:8, it says “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”

Will you be that volunteer? Will you be one who shares the blessed hope of the return of Jesus Christ with the nation of Brazil? The harvest is plenteous, but the laborers are few. If you do not go, who will? If not right now, then when? Guilherme dos Santos will never have another chance to hear the gospel, but there are many more Brazilians who need to know of this good news. Please pray for the nation of Brazil, and pray that God would send more men and women there to share the gospel.
