Jim was saved in 1972 at his home. His mother had great influence in bringing him to Christ. He met and married the love of his life, Sandy, in 1972 in Seneca, South Carolina.
Jim studied at Tabernacle Baptist College. Jim and Sandy served as missionaries with Baptist International Missions, Inc. to the country of Scotland from 1976 till 1988. God allowed them to see souls saved, baptized, and formed into a church.
While on furlough in 1988 God called Jim to become the pastor of Mile Creek Baptist Church in Six Mile, South Carolina. In those first services, there were only about 40 in attendance. Jim would serve as pastor there for the next 25 years. The attendance grew to an average of 420 in the middle of nowhere.
In January of 2013, Jim and Sandy became missionaries with Vision Baptist Missions. They lead the Voice in the Village ministry in India. God has greatly blessed this couple.
They are an example for all of us. God has given them two children who are both serving in full-time ministry. Their daughter Tamera Watson serves with her husband, Chad, who is the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. Their son Jim Roberts IV with his wife, Autumn served in India as church planters from 2013 to 2020 and now serve in Concord Baptist Church in Pickens, South Carolina.
