Russia Detains A Record 5000 People in 1 Day

According to the Human Rights Watch website, Russia set a record last weekend by detaining 5000 people in a single day! Many of these people were protesting the arrest of Alexei Navalny, who has opposed the Russian government and ‘state corruption’. More information about the protests and arrests can be found here.

Russia is the largest European country with nearly 150 million people. The population of the country is actually in decline. Unfortunately, Christians in Russia have faced some of the most severe persecution in recent history. Freedom of religions is written into the constitution, but unfortunately, that is often not the case in reality.

Operation World puts the evangelical population of Russia at 1.2%, so there is clearly a great need there. Please pray for the work of the gospel in Russia. Pray for Russian believers to have strength and wisdom to reach out. And pray for more labourers to go to this very needy country.
