Worst Gang-Related Violence in Ecuador

Ecuador is dealing with its worst case of gang-related violence in history. In the last week of September, fighting broke out among the inmates in prison in Guayaquil. It took 900 officers and army soldiers to regain control of the prison. So far, over 150 people are either dead or injured, some in extremely gruesome ways. Many suspect the killings may ultimately be related to a power struggle between Mexican drug cartels trying to influence local gangs and seize control of drug routes from Ecuador to Central America.

Pray for Ecuador. This recent prison fight is the worst of many that have happened before. As the president attempts to make prison reforms and support inmates’ relatives, pray that Christians would share the gospel with boldness so that Ecuadorians can find true salvation and consolation in Jesus.
